Course Overview
The Paediatric first aid training course (formerly First aid for child carers) is designed for people caring for children in any setting. It is suitable for au pairs, nannies, childminders, nursery and pre-school workers, sport and leisure staff, crèche leaders, parents and anyone responsible for the welfare of children.
The paediatric first aid training course is recognised by Ofsted and includes the requirements of the appointed person in the workplace. In-line with the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, it can be used as evidence for an NVQ in childcare and education.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for professional childcarers that work as nursery practitioners, childminders, crèche workers, playscheme staff or those working in a daycare setting. It is an accredited course that provides certified training to meet OFSTED requirements and also meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) 2014. You must hold an in-date Paediatric certificate to comply with the entry requirements for this course.
What will you learn?
Our First Aid 6 hour Paediatric refresher course is in a classroom environment, making it a very practical experience. It will is taught in a very hands-on manner which makes it particularly suitable for people for whom English is not their first language. Our course will equip you with the skills to be able to recognise and respond to a first aid emergency safely and efficiently.

- Role of a first aider, accident reporting and the first aid box
- Action planning in an emergency
- Primary and secondary assessments
- Recovery position
- Infant, child and adult resuscitation (CPR)
- Infant, child and adult action for choking
- Head injuries
- Treatment for bleeding, shock and burns
- Treatment for sprains, strains and fractures
- Poisoning, bites and stings
- Eye, nose and ear obstructions
- Childhood conditions
- Asthma, diabetes and seizures
- Allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock
Assessment and certification
Continuous assessment by trainer and a practical assessment. Ofqual Approved Certification through Qualsafe Awards is valid for 3 years
